Use energy consciously

We reduce our consumption & generate sustainable energy

As a manufacturing company, we bear a special responsibility for the conscious use of energy in every form. On the one hand, we therefore take measures to reduce energy consumption - in our production processes, at our sites and in our day-to-day work. On the other hand, we are promoting renewable energy and are increasingly generating it ourselves.

Transparent electricity distribution thanks to smart measurement technology

ICON_Zukunftsbericht_2024.png87 new electricity meters were installed in Salzburg and 16 in Trieben in 2023, with more to follow in 2024. With the complete roll-out, we can now seamlessly record electricity consumption at the plant. This allows potential savings and anomalies to be recognised at an early stage and targeted through projects. Monitoring also helps us to calculate the CO₂ footprint at product level.

This system already provided us with valuable insights during last year's energy audit. We have therefore decided to include the HAUTAU site in this measurement concept - a corresponding project has already been launched.

More about the CO₂ footprint

Renewable energy

The power of the sun

Around one million kWh of electricity - we generate this impressive amount of renewable energy with photovoltaic systems at our sites in Austria, Poland and Italy. This makes us less dependent on external suppliers.

Our goal: to equip as many roof surfaces of warehouses and production halls with PV systems as possible.

At our Austrian locations, we obtain almost 100 per cent of our electricity from renewable energy sources such as hydropower and wind energy.

Energy project in Trieben
Trieben

Energy project

ICON_Zukunftsbericht_2024.pngHow can we become less dependent on fossil fuels while increasing energy efficiency at our Trieben site? With our ‘Off Gas’ project, we have provided a clear answer – and were honoured with the prestigious Energy Globe Award, Styria's energy, environment and climate award, at the beginning of June 2025.

The first step in the measures required for the project, which was initiated in 2022 – the installation of a new heat pump – was implemented and put into operation in 2023. This will already save 1,345 tonnes of CO₂. In combination with lower flow temperatures, better heat distribution and the use of existing heat pumps for heating the office premises, the final stage of the project will save over 5,000 MWh of energy per year and reduce gas consumption by 40 percent.

LED replacement saves energy

We are gradually replacing our lighting systems with LED lamps - in the Salzburg electroplating plant in 2023, for example. This has already enabled us to save 1 million kWh of energy per year at all Austrian sites.

ICON_Zukunftsbericht_2024.pngOur branches are also pulling in the same direction: in 2024, for example, Italy switched to LED lamps in its offices, saving 3 per cent of energy. Our UK branch also switched to LED lighting, reducing its electricity consumption by 60 per cent.

Italy: Reducing energy consumption

ICON_Zukunftsbericht_2024.pngThe photovoltaic system at the MAICO site in Italy has been in operation since April 2023. Together with the replacement of the lighting in the warehouses with LED lamps, we were already able to save around 35 per cent of external electricity consumption in 2023 (from 39,000 kWh per month to only around 25,000 kWh). In 2024, external electricity consumption was further reduced to around 23,600 kWh.

More efficient use of compressed air

Leakage detection

ICON_Zukunftsbericht_2024.pngCompressed air is used for various processes in production. The production of compressed air requires a lot of energy and generates high emissions. This is why leaks are particularly bad for the environment. With our new leakage measuring device, we can find and prevent such leaks at an early stage.

Valves have also been integrated into the compressed air distribution system: this means that unused compressed air areas can be switched off from the outset - reducing the load on the compressed air network.
