MACO UK | 40 Years of being trusted by you
This year marks a special milestone for MACO UK – 40 years in the UK market.
Since 1986, we’ve worked alongside our partners to deliver high‑performance window and door hardware, backed by technical expertise and dependable service. Our journey is built on strong relationships, engineering excellence and a shared commitment to quality – and this anniversary is a moment to say thank you.
Key moments at a glance
The Beginning
MACO UK was established in 1986.
By 1987, our first office and warehouse had opened in Dartford, Kent. A modest start, but an important one. Those early years were focused on building relationships, understanding the UK market and earning trust.
In the late 80s and early 90s, we introduced our first offset and inline mushroom espagnolettes, followed by the MKI Shootbolt. These developments helped set new expectations for security and performance, laying the groundwork for long-term partnerships across the industry.
Continuous investment
In 2000, MACO UK moved to Sittingbourne. This marked an important step forward, with a dedicated facility for sales, distribution and innovation. It allowed us to scale effectively, improve service and strengthen support for our growing customer base.
The early 2000s saw the introduction of MACH II and the i.S. mushroom cam. Both were designed to enhance strength, precision and reliability in everyday use.
Continuous improvement
Building on earlier success, MACO Secure Plus was introduced in 2011. It enhanced the value offered to installers while providing additional reassurance for homeowners. Supporting customers in a competitive market remains a key priority.
During this time Tricoat surface coating was also launched, a pioneering protective coating that significantly enhanced the durability of the hardware.
Product expansion
From 2012 onwards, MACO significantly expanded its door lock portfolio. Solutions such as C-TS and Z-TA strengthened our position in door systems, broadening the overall product offering. This shift opened up new opportunities for customers and partners alike.
In 2014, MACO explored new ways to support customers through digital technology. The launch of an augmented reality app enabled products to be visualised more effectively, supporting both specification and sales. It was an early step towards a more digitally integrated approach.
Innovation continues
In 2019, MACO introduced the A-TS automatic door lock, followed by the M-TS motorised solution in 2022, both designed for modern living. Together, they represent a shift towards more intuitive, reliable and user-focused door security.
Later in 2019, MACO introduced the MKV espagnolette platform. Designed with both performance and practicality in mind, MKV represented a new approach to window security hardware. Greater flexibility, improved efficiency in fabrication and installation, and a platform built to adapt. Rather than a single product, MKV was developed as a system. One that could evolve to meet changing requirements, from telescopic variants to croppable solutions.
Forward thinking
In 2024, MACO Group welcomed Hautau. This strengthened the overall product portfolio, particularly in sliding and automation solutions, while expanding technical expertise across the group. A positive step in supporting customers with a broader range of solutions.
Sense by MACO represents the next phase in connected living. By integrating windows and doors into the smart home ecosystem, it supports improved security, comfort and energy efficiency. A natural progression in how hardware contributes to modern living.
Over the past 40 years, MACO UK has grown through a consistent focus on innovation, partnership and reliability. From our first warehouse in Kent to the solutions we offer today, each step has built on the last. The journey continues, and we look forward to what comes next.
Thank you
Reaching 40 years in the UK is a proud moment for MACO. It reflects not only the strength of our products, but the strength of our partnerships. We thank our customers and colleagues for being part of the journey – and we’re excited about what comes next.
